Celebration Time!

Our class celebrated our 100 points by watching a movie, wearing our pajamas to school and sharing lots of snacks!  We had a great time watching the movie and just spending time together.

Now, we're working on earning our next 100 points!  We can't wait for our next celebration!

Here are a few photos to enjoy . . .

ADD and Prosperity Chess Club (Kelsie, Noah, William)

ADD / TIPPS - by Kelsie

We practice solving word problems when we do ADD (Arithmetic Developed Daily) each day.  We follow "TIPPS" to help us.  "T" stands for "What do you think you should do?"  "I" stands for "What is the important information in the problem?"  "P" reminds us to draw a picture that shows what the problem wants us to figure out.  The second "P" is the "plan".  For the plan we have to write the math sentence that matches the problem.  And then finally, we do the "S" part.  "S" stands for solution, or what is the answer to the problem?

ADD also lets us practice other things.  Sometimes we have to figure out if one math sentence is greater than, less than or equal to another one.  Sometimes we multiply, add, divide or subtract.  Other times we have to round numbers to the nearest 10 or 100.  Or, we have to find area, perimeter or volume.

ADD helps us with all our math that we've learned in our classroom.

Prosperity Chess Club - by Noah and William

Several members of our classroom participate in the Prosperity's Chess Club.  Chess Club meets once a week after school.  Mrs. Sazama is our Chess Club teacher.  During Chess Club, we play chess and she teaches us strategies to play chess.  We've learned how to pin, castle and fork during a game.  We've learned some good moves for the white pieces, and there's a candy fairy who comes around and rewards you if you're quiet.

Kindness - by Taylee

At our school, we use Character Counts! to help us make good decisions about ourselves and how we treat others.  December is the month of responsibility, and part of that is being kind to others.  We're celebrating kindness at our school.  As a matter of fact, December is "Random Acts of Kindness" month!

Here's a story about kindness:

Kindness

One day I was walking around and I saw a girl sitting by herself at the park so I decided to say hi and maybe talk to her.  I went over there and said, "hi".  She seemed surprised and she said nervously, "Uhhhh, hi."

I started a conversation with her and when I said, "It's late.  I should be getting home," she asked me if I was her friend.  I told her of course I was her friend.  She smiled.  Then I went home.

The next day I saw her at school.  I went over to her and said, "Hi!"  She looked very nervous and then people started laughing at her and calling her names.  I said, "No!  Why are you laughing at her?  Yeah, maybe she is different because she wears glasses or has braces or wears different clothes.  But we are all people.  You are laughing at yourself, pretty much, because maybe you'll grow up and have glasses or braces yourself.  Just think about it.  It's called kindness."

When we walked away she told me what I did was very nice.  I told her not to worry about it because they shouldn't have been laughing.

The rest of the day, everyone was quiet.

That day when I went home I felt great.  Then the next day I went into school and everyone was talking to my friend.  She and I were very happy.  I whispered to myself, "kindness".

The End!
KINDNESS!
